Construction Progresses on Ottawa’s New Arena at Lansdowne 2.0

Construction is moving forward on Ottawa’s new arena at Lansdowne Park, with crews preparing the site for the installation of the building’s steel structure later this fall.

The City of Ottawa provided a new look at the Event Centre as part of its September construction update, approximately 10 months after work began on the Lansdowne 2.0 project.

Crews spent the summer completing several key elements that will form the base of the new arena. Foundation work continued throughout the Event Centre, while the future ice pad was backfilled with gravel.

Specialized concrete pump trucks were also used throughout August to pour concrete in different areas of the building as crews worked to construct the base of the concourse.

Work is now focused on completing the final quadrant of the Event Centre.

“The final quadrant is being excavated and will allow for the loading dock to be integrated into the future Event Centre,” the city said in its update.

Steel Structure Coming This Fall

Concrete pouring will continue throughout September to finalize the base of the arena. Once that work is completed, the site will be ready for the installation of the steel structure that will eventually support the stands.

Crews are also constructing the loading dock along the northern edge of the site. A trench will be excavated as support walls are built, creating the future loading dock while work continues on the final corner of the Event Centre.

Utility work is also underway near the eastern edge of the South Side Stands, connecting existing water and sewer infrastructure to the new arena. That work is expected to wrap up in September, while additional utility work will continue near Exhibition Way and around the Event Centre.

Residents and visitors to Lansdowne can expect intermittent truck traffic as construction continues. Most construction vehicles will access Bank Street using the hauling road behind the South Side Stands, while larger deliveries will continue to use Exhibition Way.

New Arena Scheduled for 2028

The new Event Centre will have 5,850 seats, with capacity increasing to approximately 6,600 for hockey games and up to 7,000 for concerts.

It is one of the major components of the $418.8 million Lansdowne 2.0 redevelopment, which also includes new north side stands at TD Place and two residential towers containing a combined 770 units.

Construction on Lansdowne 2.0 began in December 2025, with the new arena currently scheduled to be completed in 2028.
